Harmony is a peer-led organization that promotes wellness and recovery by providing a safe space for peer support and information exchange. We support a recovery-oriented wellness system that moves beyond a focus on surviving and instead emphasizes thriving.
Recovery does not have one starting point or one destination; at Harmony, we encourage people to start where they are—and we meet them in that place. We provide peer-led support groups, community educational events, skills development opportunities, on-site outreach, and advocacy for transformation of the mental health system across Virginia.
Our Support Groups
We offer a variety of free support groups for people across the lifespan based on the Depression and Bipolar Alliance (DBSA) model. Harmony has both “open” groups for peers and their supporters and “closed” groups for people personally experiencing challenges related to mental health or substance use. Our groups include:
- Fredericksburg Adult Support Group (open) – Every Tuesday, 7-9 p.m., Mary Washington Hospital. Contact Elaine Arnold at 540-847-6974. This group is primarily for people living with depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety, but all are welcome to attend.
- Locust Grove Adult Support Group (open) – 2nd & 4th Mondays, 6:30-8:30, Wilderness Library. Contact Dee Jacobson at 540-846-6220. This is a wellness-focused group based on principles of WRAP and trauma-informed care.
All of our groups are led by trained peer facilitators passionate about supporting others in their recovery. Other groups are forming as we speak. To request a group in your location or to suggest a group focus, please contact Dee Jacobson at 540-846-6220.
